Scope

This document specifies a method for the determination of the adhesion of the internal and external protective lacquer of aluminium tubes.

It is applicable to aluminium tubes that are coated with an internal or external protective lacquer and which are used for packing, e.g. pharmaceutical, cosmetic, hygiene, food and other household products.

Purpose

There have been incidents where tubes that were subjected to a crush test according to the standard did not show any defects. It was only after further bending that the inner lacquer began to peel off. The current standard only says the following: The pressed tube must be removed from the pressing device and stretched again in the longitudinal direction. The stretched tubes are to be checked for cracks and detached parts of the inner and outer protective lacquer. If cracks or detached parts of the lacquer are present, the samples have not passed the test. Therefore, it could be reasonable to include the following text in the standard: For the examination of the inner varnish, the tube shall be cut open, unfolded and brought into a square shape.
