Scope

This Specification specifies performance and constructional requirements for men's and ladies' lined and unlined dress gloves made from leather to be worn as accessories to normal daily dress and fashion excluding sports and work uses.

Purpose

The primary purpose of developing an ISO standard for leather dress gloves is to establish globally recognized guidelines for their quality, performance, and safety. This standard will ensure consistency in manufacturing, enhance consumer confidence, and facilitate international trade by harmonizing specifications across different markets. Leather being a natural material finds a most prominent position in the fashion field. Leather offers several benefits, including protection, durability and longevity, style and versatility, improved grip, comfort and fit. Due to these many advantages and versatility, leathers are highly preferred for making products. Further, significant steps have been made by the global leather industry in addressing environmental issues by using the best available technology to reduce the use of water, chemical and energy in process. The economic impact is significant, as the leather industry supports millions of jobs worldwide, particularly in developing countries. Compliance with ISO standards enhances global trade opportunities by ensuring product quality and safety. Here in this document, specification for leather dress gloves is highlighted. This document also specifies the requirements and limit of Critical chemical substances in leather production, such as chromium VI, formaldehyde, and azo dyes. However, till date there is no specific ISO specification or standard as reference point of view for stakeholders like leather goods manufacturers, buyers or consumers. Therefore, this proposal is being made for a globally accepted standard.
