ISO/NP 26050 Zinc addition method for primary circuit of new pressurized water reactor

Scope

This standard specifies the principles and requirements for adding zinc to the primary circuit during thermal functional testing and power operation of new pressurized water reactor power plants, which can reduce the radiation source term in the primary circuit system and the radiation field outside the core.

Purpose

This document provides a mature and reliable method for adding zinc to the primary circuit of a newly built pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant, aiming to improve the efficiency of zinc application in the primary circuit of nuclear power plants, reduce the risk of core deposition, and lower the dose rate level of the power plant. At present, there are over 100 zinc adding units internationally, most of which are in-service units that have been in operation for many years. The process of adding zinc to newly built power plants differs significantly from that of units that have been in operation for many years in terms of operational risks and zinc addition operations. However, there are currently no relevant international standards and methods for adding zinc to newly built power plants. Research has shown that the use of zinc addition technology in newly built power plants has more obvious advantages, which can make the formed oxide film more dense, reduce the risk of core deposition, and reduce the radiation field outside the core from the early stage of power plant operation. With the increasing number of new nuclear power projects in recent years, the demand for zinc addition standards applicable to new power plants has become more urgent. Therefore, in order to improve the application level of zinc addition technology in new power plants, we suggest developing an industry standard that summarizes and promotes the requirements and good practices of zinc addition technology in new power plants in various countries, providing a more specific and clear specification to guide the zinc addition application in power plants.
