Scope

This International Standard covers the safety of Inductive Power Source & Inductive Power Load appliances for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V.

This standard pertains to Inductive Power Transfer used for the purpose of wireless power transfer from a transmitter as the power source to a receiver as the load. The Inductive Power Source is the power transmitter (PTx). The Inductive Power Load is the cordless appliance or Power Receiver (PRx) which may have no other power supply.

The primary intended use of this wireless power transfer is for small kitchen appliances. The Inductive Power Source transmitter may be a stand-alone unit or incorporated into induction hobs. A stand - alone Inductive Power Source unit may be either countert op or concealed inside of the work surface.

This standard will enable generic Inductive Power Source and Inductive Power Load units to be sold separately in addition to proprietary transmitter and receiver combination systems.

Inductive Power Transfer systems operate within a frequency range from 20 kHz to less than 1 MHz.

This work has been prepared based on IEC 60335-1:2020 ED6.0.

Appliances not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops and other premises for normal housekeeping purposes, are within the scope of this standard.

As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account:

• persons (including children) whose

• physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or

• lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;

• children playing with the appliance.

NOTE 102 Attention is drawn to the fact that

• for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;

• in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities.

NOTE 103 This standard does not apply to

• the safety of appliances that use induction heating (IEC 60335 -2-9)

• the safety of low voltage inductive power transfer (below 15 volts) (IEC 62368 series)

Purpose

Wireless Power products are just coming on to the market in small appliance use cases and a safety standard is needed to certify products to. The relationship to other Part 2’s(60335-2-9/13/14/15) is being developed.

NOTE: Here is the text from the discussion from the Delft TC61 Plenary Report from the Chair in April of 2025

A proposal for development of a new document to address Wireless Power Transfer applications was discussed during AG61 meeting of 13 March 2025: Part 2 -X: Particular requirements for inductive power transfer including power source and load (see item 7.E 61 /7425/INF). AG61 concluded that at this time there is no need to seek for the opinion of ACOS with regards to this development. A new NWIP will be prepared with the support of UL/CSA TG and a WG will be created in TC61 to work on the development of this technology mainly addressing small appliances and impacting 60335 -2- 9/13/14/15 once the NWIP is approved
