Scope

This British Standard specifies the requirements for the materials and performance of a Chromium(V)-free primer for aerospace purposes. The primer, specified for use on metallic substrates as an anti-corrosive coating system when overcoated with a compatible finish provides protection and as functional finishing scheme for exterior surfaces

Purpose

BS X 42, which is the chromate-free ‘pre-primer’ (also known as an etch primer) whereas BS X 43 is the proposed chromate-free epoxy primer which may be applied on top of BS X 42 or directly on to a metal surface.
