Lump coals are needed for some gasification technology, which stability and completeness retaining original size of coal in the transportation and feeding into the gasification furnace are highly considerable.
This document of drop shatter test affords a rapid means of determining the shatter index (S+25) for indicating the ability of lump coal to resistance breakage when subjected to dropping down and colliding at the loading and unloading and transportation, which helps consumers to determine the size of the lump, and the design department to choose the appropriate type of coal regarding to the shatter strength of the lump coal to ascertain the equipment model and process flow.It is easy to understand, operate and apply in different level labs..The shatter index of coal is an important gasification index for the fixed bed gasifiers.
Comparing to the ASTM D 440 and ISO 7936 Annex A, there are some advantages of this new proposed STD:
1)A parameter of shatter index(S+25) is defined and rapidly determined.
2)The testing equipment is simpler and easier to operate for the labs..
3)The preparation procedure of coal sample is easier and the amount of coal samples is less.
4)The sieving process and results calculation are easier.
