Scope
This initiative aims to update and harmonize TC 286 standards by addressing three key areas:
1. LPG Definition Alignment The definition of LPG will be revised to align with the position of the United Nations and the Working Party on the Transport of Dangerous Goods. This alignment is pending clarification at the upcoming CEN/TC 286 convenors meeting.
2. Standardized Language for TS 16765 A consistent form of wording will be developed and applied across all TC 286 standards—especially product standards—to ensure clear implementation of the requirements outlined in TS 16765.
3. Update of Normative References All outdated normative references within the standards will be reviewed and updated to reflect the most current and applicable versions.
4. Material compatibility Review pipe specification materials and connections for compatibility to new rLPG (DME drop-in) and confirm suitability.
Purpose
• The definition of LPG needs to be aligned with UN position and the Working Party of the Transport of Dangerous Goods Joint Meeting when agreed. This position is due to be clarified at meeting of CEN/TC 286 convenors later this year before revisions can take place in individual standards.
• A form of words will have to be developed for this standard and all TC 286 standards (particularly product standards) to ensure the application and implementation of the requirements of TS 16765.
• Many normative references within the document are now out of date and need to be updated.
