This ISO specifies the classification of leak testing methods commonly used and the selection of them. However, this standard is not intended for the enforcement of practical selection methods.
Similar standards to this standard have already been standardized in Europe, the United States and Japan, so it is considered that there is a strong need for the establishment of the proposal ISO standard. More than 30 methods have been developed for leak testing, depending on the amount of leak rate and the test object. This standard provides comprehensive safety precautions for leak testing in general. In addition, this standard demonstrates the leak testing methods using common items such as the principle of leakage testing, the applicable leak rate range, and the characteristics of the test object. Furthermore, the selection for one or more appropriate leak testing methods according to the test object and leak rate is provided. End users can obtain general safety information about leak testing and are able to select the appropriate leak testing method from a various kind of leak testing methods.
