Scope

This document specifies terms, definitions, symbols, principles, apparatus, specimen, test procedure, data processing, result evaluation, report and other content for the high strain rates tensile test at elevated temperature for metallic materials by using split Hopkinson tensile bar. This proposal is applicable to the determination of mechanical properties of metallic materials at elevated temperature within the strain rate of 102s-1 ~ 103s-1, which are applied for the study of impact-related problems, such as analysis of vehicle collision safety based on numerical simulation in automotive industry, numerical predictive assessment of aircraft impact in aviation industry, etc.

Purpose

Decision 6/2025 taken by CEN/TC 459/SC 1 on 2025-05-15

Adoption of ISO 26203-3 as EN ISO

CEN/TC 459/SC 1 "Test methods for steels (other than chemical analysis)

• having considered the proposal for a new work item as documented in CEN/TC 459/SC 1 N 412;

• having considered the Guidance - Adoption of a new work item in a CEN Technical Committee under Vienna Agreement as documented in the BOSS decides to register EN ISO 26203-3 "Metallic materials — Tensile testing at high strain rates — Part 3: Test method at elevated temperature (ISO/TC 164/SC 1/WG 7)" as a new work item in its programme of work.

The decision is taken by unanimity..
