The specifications can contain either requirements (as in inquiries) or information (as in offers/tenders/quotations and data sheets/manuals). The object types can be intended components of a system or plant (as inquired by a buyer) or offered product-types (as offered by a seller) or ordered and/or delivered products (as agreed between a buyer and a seller).
The application of specifications, made in accordance with this standard is seen as one prerequisite for consistent information flow throughout the life cycle of a system or plant.
NOTE For simplification of the text throughout this document, “object type” is often used as a generic term for “product type”, “plant”, “system”, “component type”, etc.
The principles and methods for specification of properties on products specified in IEC 62569-1 needs to be complemented with this part providing a generally applicable structure of a generic specification of information on products. Further rationale and needs are given in the introduction of IEC 62569-1. By providing this part, the original intentions and goals with the standard series will be met.
