Scope
The proposed standard systematically establishes the requirement production, trade, application and maintenance of managed pressure drilling equipment, which is applicable to the design, manufacturing, quality control and safe use of managed pressure drilling equipment, assisting the standardization of MPD operation. This document Standardizes the terminology and definitions of managed pressure drilling equipment in the field of oil and gas drilling, as well as the design, performance, quality control, testing, inspection, and transportation requirements of MPD equipment.
Purpose
As the world's advanced drilling method, the managed pressure drilling technique possesses the capability of onshore and offshore application, which could successfully cope with the issues of drilling the deep well and unconventional well, and has become an essential technology for international oil and gas exploration and development. The MPD has been widely adopted in regions such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and North America. Many international oil service companies, including CNPC, Sinopec, Weatherford, Schlumberger, Halliburton, and Enhanced Drilling, are continuously expanding their MPD operations. However, the international MPD industry lacks unified standards and specifications, leading to chaotic market competition. This results in inconsistency in operating procedures and application performance, ultimately undermining the effectiveness of MPD technology. Therefore, there is an urgent need to establish the proposed standard to promote the Standardized development of MPD technology innovation, and integration of technical services, coordinate the global oil and gas development market, improve the normalization and standardization of MPD equipment, significantly promote global trade cooperation, and realize mutual benefit and win-win.
