Scope

This standard specifies the type and model, design and manufacturing requirements, testing requirements, file, marking, packing, transportation and storage of drill string heave compensator. This standard applies to the design, manufacture and test of floating drilling platform with drill string heave compensator.

Purpose

Drill string heave compensator is the core equipment of offshore oil and gas drilling equipment. It helps eliminate the influence of platform heaving on drilling operations under the action of ocean waves, reduce the fluctuation of drilling pressure at the bottom of the well caused by the heave movement, solve the technical problem of accurate decentralization of underwater equipment. Therefore, the drill string heave compensator plays a very important role in the offshore oil drilling equipment. However, the investigations indicate that there is no corresponding international standard specifying the design, manufacture, inspection, quality control of drill string heave compensators in petroleum and natural gas industries, which causes many inconveniences. For example:1) It is inconvenient for the international trade of product; 2) Each manufacturer uses different standards, which is not conducive to promoting technological progress and improving product quality and efficiency; 3) Various specifications and interfaces are not conducive to the overall interchangeability of drill string heave compensators; 4) The non-interchangeability of spare parts leads to higher operation and maintenance costs; 5) No standard requirement for installation, operation and maintenance, so there are potential safety risks. Therefore, it is very necessary to set up an international standard about drill string heave compensator in petroleum and natural gas industries. In the past decades, lots of research in the field of sea state simulation experiment, main parameters analysis, active heave control technology and other aspects of drill string heave compensators have been systematically conducted. A relative complete design, manufacture, inspection, quality control system has been established. The key technical parameters of the product have also been confirmed. The research results have been successfully applied to the design and manufacture of drill string heave compensator, and play an important role in ensuring the safety and reliability of drill string heave compensator products. This standard can be used to guide the design, manufacture, inspection, quality control, acceptance and purchase etc. of drill string heave compensators in offshore petroleum and natural gas industries.
