The amendment of EN 12845-2 is primarily driven by the need to resolve several technical issues. These include ambiguities in the application of ESFR sprinkler protection across different storage types and configurations (e.g. STCs and solid shelves), inconsistencies in ceiling height and storage height requirements, and unclear guidance on flue space dimensions. There is also a lack of clarity in the application of design criteria for obstructions, thermal venting systems, and the hydraulic calculation of sprinkler areas, particularly for CMSA and ESFR systems. Additionally, corrections are needed in the technical content of figures and tables, such as Table 7, where redundant or conflicting information could lead to misinterpretation. Definitions and design limits (e.g. glycol content, acceptable rack types, activation temperatures) also require refinement to ensure compatibility with real-world system designs and harmonization with EN 12845-1 and EN 12259-13. Overall, these amendments aim to enhance technical precision, ensure correct application, and improve fire protection performance in storage occupancies.
