New Work Item for the identical adoption of ISO 5014:2025 Dense and insulating shaped refractory products - Determination of modulus of rupture at ambient temperature to replace EN 993-6:2018 Methods of test for (dense) shaped refractory products - Part 6: Determination of modulus of rupture at ambient temperature

Scope

This document specifies a method for the determination of the modulus of rupture of dense and insulating shaped refractory products at ambient temperature, under conditions of a constant rate of increase of stress.

Shaped refractories are those which have fixed geometry and dimensions when delivered to the user. This document is accordingly applicable to standard shape refractory bricks, but also special shapes refractory products and pre-cast products.

This document is also applicable to unshaped refractories (see ISO 1927-6) after preparation of test specimens according to ISO 1927-5.

Purpose

The modulus of rupture (MOR) is a critical property of refractory products.

The fourth edition of ISO 5014 from March 2025 is based on the EN 993-6 standard and constitutes a further improvement of the latter.

The identical adoption of ISO 5014:2025 (Dense and insulating shaped refractory products - Determination of modulus of rupture at ambient temperature) in replacement of the current EN 993-6:2018 will accordingly provide both the producers and users of refractory products with the most up to date testing protocol for the determination of this essential product characteristic.

Such adoption of ISO/TC 33 relevant standards ensures harmonization within the EU and the users benefit from continuity and consistency of technical content at European and national levels.
