Scope

PV couplers with a maximum DC system voltage up to and including 1 500 V are covered by IEC 62852. PV couplers with a DC system voltage exceeding 1 500 V and up to and including 3 000 V are covered by this document. This Technical Specification applies to PV couplers for use in the DC circuits of photovoltaic systems with rated voltages between DC 1501 V and DC 3000 V and rated currents up to DC 125 A per contact. This standard applies to PV couplers with connectors from same product family of same manufacturer without breaking capacity but which are able to be engaged and disengaged under voltage (i.e. when live, CuV).

Note: The meaning of “manufacturer” is described in 3.32. This Technical specification also applies to connectors for PV couplers which are intended to be built-in or integrated in enclosures of devices for photovoltaic systems.

This standard may be used as a guide for connectors in photovoltaic systems of classes 0 according to IEC 61730. This document does not apply to connectors for data collection, tracker controls or similar. This standard does not cover any requirement which may be applied for tests of combinations of connectors from different manufacturers.

Purpose

There is a growing trend in the PV industry toward higher system voltage.

Presently there are no standards to cover components used in such applications.
