Scope

This document covers the measurements of particles on the test bench for both kinds of friction pairs (disc and pads, wheel and brake shoes). This document specifies apparatus, methods, test reports, minimum test conditions and minimum requirements to provide comparability of the measurements between test benches. This document does not define typical operational load spectra or the definition of limit values for emission. This document does not define product classification based on dust emission.

Purpose

Today there is no harmonised method, when at international level there is a strong interest to characterise and measure the pollution by particles emission. This project aims to cover the need for a standardised methodology to measure the particles emitted during train braking on test bench in different configurations and different simulated test conditions. It will help to define the objectives fulfilled by the measurements as well as the way to prepare the tests and present the test results.

Proposal of re-activation of the WI following SC2 resolution R09/05 "R09/05 Taking into consideration the report on the activities of ISO/TC 269/SC 2/WG 12, made by Mr. ANDRES (FR), ISO/TC 269/SC 2 decides that, if ISO/AWI 19341 “Railway applications — Measurement methods of particles emission from braking on a railway test bench” is cancelled due to exceeding the time limit, a new ballot will be launched for a NP with the available document attached as outline and with Mr. ANDRES (FR) as project leader."
