Scope

This document applies to all goggles with plano lenses, intended for eye protection when using motorcycle, moped and motorized scooters and ATV/quad bike/motocross against hazards including mechanical impacts, ultraviolet and visible solar radiation, rain, wind, dust and mud, during both on-road and for off-road sport or leisure activities, subject to the following exclusion This document applies to goggles fitted with an insert to carry prescription lenses. It specifies requirements and testing for materials, performance, marking of goggles and information to be supplied by the manufacturer. Information on the selection and use of goggles when using motorcycle, moped and motorized scooters and ATV/quad bike/motocross is given in Annex A. This document does not apply to a) eye protectors for protection against optical radiation from artificial sources, such as those used in solaria, b) eye protectors for direct observation of the sun, and c) eye protectors intended for sports with unrelated hazards and risks.

Purpose

CEN/TC 85 carried out a systematic review on EN 1938 and concluded that it should be referred to ISO TC94 SC6 with a view to the preparation of an ISO document under the Vienna agreement. See CENTC85_N835_2023-11-03 Plenary Draft Minutes. This was agreed unanimously by ISO TC94 SC6 WG5. See ISO_TC94_SC6_WG5_N177_Minutes 8th February 2024. Such a document forms a natural addition to the ISO 18527 series
