It provides procedures and methods for measuring and calculating the energy efficiency and associated characteristics of non-residential unidirectional ventilation units (NRVU-UVU) when driven by electric motors.
This document does not apply to:
— residential unidirectional and bidirectional ventilation units;
— non-residential bidirectional ventilation units;
— unidirectional ventilation units with additional air treatment items (e.g. heating- or cooling coils);
— axial or centrifugal fans only equipped with a housing;
— NRVU-UVU exclusively specified as operating in a potentially explosive atmoshpere;
— NRVU-UVU exclusively specified as operating for emergency use, for short periods of time, and which comply with the basic requirements for construction works;
— NRVU-UVU exclusively specified as operating:
— where operating temperatures of the air being moved exceed 100 °C;
— where the operating ambient temperature for the motor, if located outside the air stream, driving the fan exceeds 65 °C;
— where the temperature of the air being moved or the operating ambient temperature for the motor, if located outside the air stream, are lower than – 40 °C;
— where the supply voltage exceeds 1 000 V AC or 1 500 V DC;
— in toxic, highly corrosive or flammable environments or in environments with abrasive substances;
— NRVU-UVU include a heat exchanger and a heat pump for heat recovery or allowing heat transfer or extraction being additional to that of the heat recovery system, except heat transfer for frost protection or defrosting;
— NRVU-UVU classified as range.
NOTE 1 For residential unidirectional ventilation units see EN 13142:2021.
NOTE 2 For non-residential bidirectional ventilation units see EN 13053:2019.
The standard project mandated by the European Commission had already been approved and was part of the work programme of CEN/TC 156 as EN 17291 (WI 00156246). The standard project (EN 17291) has successfully passed the enquiry vote. After the enquiry the project has been cancelled due to exceeding the deadline and has been removed from the work programme. Subsequently the convenor and secretary met the EU Policy Officer, Mr. Polverini, who expressed a desire for this standard to be published but incorporating the same corrections identified by VHK (the consultant for EN 17166) in prEN 17166. In order not to waste the years of standardisation activities and in order to fulfil the mandate of the EU, a re-inclusion of the project in the work programme of CEN/TC 156 is necessary. The will of the stakeholders involved in standardisation (members of CEN/TC 156/WG 17 Fans) is currently being inquired in a Committee Internal Ballot (CIB). The subject of the CIB is the approval of this New Work Item Proposal (NWIP). After approval and re-inclusion, a new publication of a Draft Standard is foreseen. In case of a positive outcome of the Enquiry vote, it is intended to skip the step of voting on the Final Draft and to proceed directly to the publication of the standard.
