Scope
This standard specifies the scope, site selection requirements, layout requirements, general requirements, specific requirements, facilities requirements of smart laboratory design. This standard applies to the design, construction of smart laboratories.
Purpose
Smart laboratories can reduce errors, increase safety and efficiency, support advanced and specialized testing, and deliver faster turnaround times. By combining the multiple technologies, such as Blending Internet of Things (IoT) technology, automation, robotics, digital twin, artificial intelligence, etc., ‘Smart Labs’ enable existing infrastructure such as devices, software systems, processes and databases to be networked with each other to make workflows, resource management and collaboration easier, safer and more efficient. Smart Labs also enable safe and efficient world-class science to occur in laboratories through high-performance methods. Thus, Smart Labs represent the direction of laboratory development and are increasingly receiving attention. The demand for building smart labs is also increasingly growing. However, the lack of standards for smart laboratory design at this stage has become a major bottleneck that hinders the establishment of smart laboratories. This standard will provide a framework and the basic guidance for the design of smart laboratories in various applications.
