C03/2025 – SC1/WG21 Pre-registration NWI - Definition and classification of track defects, Railway applications – Infrastructure – Definition and classification of track defects

Scope

The defect catalogue shall provide a coding system with a language independent and unambiguous definition and classification of track defects (excluding rails which are covered by EN 17397). The new standard covers the full scope of track related defects and considers the same systematics of the existing rail defect classification system. This assures the link to the existing rail defect classification system, which is out of the scope of the new standard.

Purpose

The defect catalogue shall provide a coding system as a language independent and unambiguous definition and classification of track defects. It shall have a structured numbering system which both allows for the full scope of track related defects and takes into account the coding system of the existing rail defect classification. This shall assure the link to the existing rail defect classification system, which is out of the scope of the new standard.

Note: in case the WI is based on documents from other organizations than ISO/IEC, please specify it here: - The Swiss Federal Railways makes available the document “Abweichungskatalog für Streckenwärter” as an input for the future standard.
