Scope

This part of BS 8486 specifies one means of determining compliance with the provisions for examination, testing and recording results for new evacuation lifts specified in BS EN 81 76:2025, before being put into service.

Purpose

Following the publication of BS EN 81-76, there will be an immediate need for a new BS test document, BS 8486 Part 10. This will be a new addition to the BS 8486 series of testing documents currently used by UK installers and approved bodies to verify new lift installations' conformity with the relevant EN 81-series standards. Part 10 will be used for the conformity of evacuation lifts with BS EN 81-76 for new installations and for ongoing periodic verification as evacuation lifts are upgraded, modified, or retested over their lifecycle.
