This proposed new British Standard, ‘Verification of Industrial Laundry Disinfection Processes’, specifies the application of proven test methodologies as developed by De Montfort University and supported globally by the Textile Services industry and will enable a laundry to implement laundry processes in compliance with the standard.
The language of Bio-Contamination Control for laundered textiles varies across market sectors within the UK as well as in different countries and the adoption of this standard will benefit industrial laundries by generating a level playing field of control parameters.
Different market sectors in all countries use specific labels for their approach to assuring product hygiene, safety and fitness for purpose.
Industrial laundries can introduce this new standard to complement the RABC standard by demonstrating its equivalence to the following sample approaches in the UK:
- HACCP - Hazard Analysis, Critical Control Points, used in the Food industry.
- GMP – Good Manufacturing Practice, used in Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices
- Infection Prevention and Control – used across the Healthcare Services.
Significant development over recent years now enables the absolute ability to measure and monitor such qualities by quantifiable, non-destructive, real time bioindicator test methodologies and it is this which now demands a specific standard to be generated such that quantifiable process parameters may be set and adopted.
It is proposed that a new standard is generated which specifies the application of these test methodologies within an industrial laundry for the purpose of the ‘Verification of Industrial Laundry Disinfection Processes’.It is intended that protocol, resultant upon the research and development undertaken, along with the proven test methodologies will form the main body of this new standard and must be adopted in order to achieve compliance.
