PNW 46C-1311 ED1: IEC 62783-3 ED1: Twinax cables for digital communication - Part 3: Family specification - Cable for SAS physical interfaces

Scope

This part of IEC 62783 is a family specification for twinax cable for SAS physical interfaces. It specifies the design and construction, rated values and characteristics, requirements and test methods, etc. The cables for SAS physical interfaces are typically used for signal connection between various components in the server, memory and other devices.

Purpose

The family of Twinax cables covered in this standard are specified for very high-speed data communication links over Twinax cables using link segment specifications in accordance with SAS physical interface standards. SAS - Serial attached SCSI (small computer system interface), e.g., SAS-3, SAS-4, and SAS-4.1, PHY (physical interface) data links are frequently used in GPU (graphics processor units) interconnection networks between nodes in large AI (artificial intelligence) systems. This is similar to the 62783-2 Twinax family standard, which instead uses Ethernet Twinax PHY specifications
