This standard applies to Devices to prevent pollution by potable water - Pipe interrupter with permanent atmospheric vent DN 22 to DN 42 - Family D, type C.
In England and Wales, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (‘the regulations’) regulate how water systems are designed, installed and operated. In the regulations and in the ‘Regulator Specifications’ the size range of inlet connection to the DC device incorporated into a pressure flushing valve is outside the size range of the inlet connection.
Pressure flushing valves, because of their use are required to supply volumes of water quickly to a WC or urinal have rather large DN connections typically 32mm. This is where we have an issue as the existing standard for pipe interrupters EN 14453 and the Regulators specification only details devices up to and including a DN of 20mm and therefore devices of DN32mm are excluded.
A BS would ensure that future innovation and development will be co-ordinated with industry as standards undertake a 5-year review whereas the DEFRA Regulators Specifications are never updated with this recent update being the first in 25 years.
The availability of the specification as a British Standard will consolidate the installation of pressure flushing devices that is missing in the marketplace.
