NWIP CEN ISO/TR 22411-2 (Draft Decision C 629/2024)

Scope

This document provides ergonomic design considerations and related knowledge on human abilities for use in the application of ISO/IEC Guide 71:2014 as a supporting document for the Guide. The intention underlying is to help standards developers and designers of products, services, environments use the Guide71 to implement accessibility into their developing standards or designing products etc by providing further necessary information.

The contents of this document are closely related to those in ISO/IEC Guide 71:2014 with more elaborated and updated information on design considerations and human abilities. Some of the information is based on the human data part of the 2nd edition of the ISO/TR 22411:2021 (part 1). Design considerations are mostly adopted from ISO/TR 22411:2008 (1st edition) to retain its relevant information while adding more information currently available on accessible design. Examples of good practice are also included, which are popular as accessible design in our current daily lives.

Purpose

Accessibility of products, services and environments has become social common interest and concern in our daily lives since the ISO/IEC Guide 71:2001 was developed to launch this design concept through the international standards. ISO/TR 22411 was first developed in 2008 to help standards developers and products designers in use of the Guide 71 to implement the accessible design concept in their standards and products etc. In 2014 resulting from the revision of the Guide 71, there was a need to revise the TR to meet the new version of the Guide. Due to some limiting sources and time, the revision of the TR was accomplished only for the part containing human data sources while the other parts concerning design considerations were left unchanged waiting for future revision. In order to keep relevant knowledge on the design considerations contained in ISO/TR 22411:2008, and also to cover updated information on accessibility including good practice, this part of the ISO/TR 22411 of 2nd edition was developed.

By developing this part of the TR, ISO/TR 22411:2008 has entirely been revised as the 2nd edition to harmonize with ISO/IEC Guide 71:2014
