Scope

This document specifies the print through test principle, instruments and materials, sample preparation, test procedures, results and test reports.

This document is applicable for the test of print through. Four evaluation methods can be used for representation of the result. When print through phenomenon is to be evaluated, any one of the first three methods can be used. If more information includes the factors causing the print through phenomenon are needed to be figure out, the fourth method can be used.

Purpose

If there is a printing through phenomenon in the printing process, it will affect the color and clarity of the printed text on the back of the print. The printed text on the back of the substrate is chaotic and unclear, resulting in significant economic losses of printing waste.

Therefore, it is an important guarantee to study the generation and detection methods of print through phenomenon and control them to ensure the production of high-quality fine prints and meet customer requirements.

Low weight substrate is a more special printing materials, with the need for double-sided printing, the printing problem is more serious. When the printing substrate grammage is low, it is easy to have a print through phenomenon due to low opacity, resulting in double-sided handwriting or patterns overlapping each other, interfering with the visual recognition of the reader (writing), which is harmful to visual discrimination and the protection of eyesight. Therefore, the research on the printing through phenomenon of printing substrates, especially low weight printing substrates, can provide an effective means of detection and control for printing production.
