Scope

This document describes methods for simulating the concentrated load apply on the glass PV modules integrated with the roof and combining subsequent environmental aging test flows.

Purpose

Glass Photovoltaic (PV) modules are electrical devices intended for continuous outdoor exposure and maintenance during their life. Existing type approval standards do not consider the concentrated load shock when engineering staff walk on them during installation and maintenance on the roof.

For PV modules with single glass thickness exceeding 3mm, alternative calculation methods —such as those based on Eurocodes or their respective national application documents —may provide more similar results. However, for single glass thicknesses less th an 3mm, it is recommended to use this document forassessment. This document can also be applied for glass thicknesses greater than 3mm in regions outside of Europe.

This document is written for two purposes: Firstly, it provides accessibility assessment method to determine glass PV modules are walkable or not when they will be installed on the roof without the installation and maintenance passageway in the PV array. Secondly, the testing method will also aid in providing a reduced level shock hazard when the Fire fighters (FF) perform operations on the roof integrated with the glass PV module.
