NWIP Decomposition of the EUDI Wallet – Part 2 - Decomposition of the Provider by Service in the objective of Functional and Security Certifications

Scope

1.1 Objective of this document

This document targets to refine the “EUDI wallet provider architecture” through decomposition in services at a conceptual level as to allow “composit certification” and as “wallet provider certification” is required next to “wallet solution certification” (described in a sister-document) to establish an EUDIW certification.

This document is also a contribution to the ARF and EUDI Wallet reference implementation, as it is excepted that the reference implementation is based on a modular approach to allow Memberstates to re-use this code for their national implementations. It is more than ever crucial as Member-states faces budget constraints and we shall leverage the EU investments into the EUDI Reference implementation.

This does not mean each of the identified services will have to be certified in isolation but rather that:

a) One could certify any of the identified functions “in isolation” if it is implemented as a separate service

b) Or if a service used entails multiple of the identified functions, then certify the service against all of the related requirements.

In this decomposition of the EUDI Wallet Provider, each of the functions is looked at as a potential separate service, whereby clearly:

a) Each service needs to be assessed to be conceived / set up as a trustworthy service (=more technical perspective)

b) Each service should also be assessed to be run / operated as a “trusted /secured service”
