IEC 105/1078/NP N 318 Fuel cell technologies – Part 2-X: Fuel cell modules - Performance test methods for PEM module

Scope

This part of IEC 62282 provides performance test methods for a fuel cell module, as defined by 485-09-03.
(assembly incorporating one or more fuel cell stacks and, if applicable, additional components, that is
intended to be integrated into a power system or a vehicle).
This standard applies to fuel cell module with a proton exchange membrane electrolyte.
Fuel cell modules can be provided with or without an enclosure and can be operated at significant
pressurization levels or close to ambient pressure. Most characteristic is that they produce the power at temperatures below 100 oC.
These requirements can be superseded by other standards for equipment containing fuel cell modules as required for particular applications.
An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailed in the
requirements of this document can be examined and tested according to the purpose of these requirements and, if found to be substantially equivalent, can be considered to comply with this document.

This document does not cover fuel cell road vehicle applications. The fuel cell modules may be final products or components of final products.

These products require evaluation according to appropriate end-product safety requirements.

Purpose

As one of the terminals of hydrogen energy consumption, fuel cell power generation system is an important carrier to promote the development of global hydrogen energy and the low-carbon transformation of energy. At present, proton exchange membrane fuel cells have a wide range of application scenarios, and can be used in stationary, transportation, portable and micro power supplies. Fuel cell module is the core part of fuel cell power generation system, and the formulation of relevant standards is the basic and important part of fuel cell system standards.

The project approved the establishment of the AHG16 proton exchange membrane fuel cell module performance test method working group in accordance with the IEC/TC105 meeting resolution, which is responsible for carrying out the research work on relevant international standards for proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance. The purpose of this work is to propose a performance test method of PEM fuel cell module, such as Power output under specified operating and transient conditions, power output characteristics during cold start, electrical efficiency under specified operating conditions, and power supply stability under specific operating conditions.
