Scope

This document covers the following precast concrete products made of unreinforced, reinforced
or prestressed normal weight or light weight concrete, used in structural or nonstructural
applications for building and civil engineering works:
— linear structural elements including columns, beams and frame,
— beams with or without clay shells intended to be used in conjunction with blocks as defined
hereafter for floor and roofing systems,
— foundation elements, including columns with integrated foundation elements, pocket
foundation elements and sockets, intended to be used in buildings,
— foundation piles and segments of piles intended to be used for building and civil engineering
works and installed at the site by the use of impact, vibration, pressing or other suitable
techniques,
— poles (also called masts),
— elements for fences including posts, panels, rails and base panels, intended to be used as
lightstructural or nonstructural elements,
— bridge deck elements,
— floor plates intended to be used in floor systems in conjunction with castinsitu concrete,
— solid slabs to be attached to the exterior of a building above the ground, such as floors, roofs,
landings and balconies, and solid slabs intended to be used as structural elements,
— hollow core slabs and solid slabs manufactured in the same way but without hollow core,
— ribbed floor elements intended to be used for floors and roofs,
— floor slats intended to be used for the housing of livestock,
— shuttering blocks made of concrete and woodchip concrete,
— solid, hollow core, multilayer and composite loadbearing, nonloadbearing, and cladding wall
elements,
solid, hollow, and multilayer special roof elements,
— stairs and individual elements for the construction of stairs,
— heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) flue elements intended to be used to convey
heating, ventilation, and air conditioning gases,
— retaining wall elements,
— rectangular crosssection monolithic box culverts, designed as continuous elements intended
to be used for the creation of voids below ground, cable tunnels and subways,
— junction boxes

— garages as monolithic unit, or as kits of single sections or kits for double space garages.
This document also covers blocks made of concrete, clay, EPS, wood, plastic, cardboard, glass
reinforced plastic, agglomerated stone, metal or a combination of them and intended to be used
in beamandblocks floor systems.
The products are manufactured in factories or in temporary plants on site where production is
protected against adverse weather conditions as necessary.
This document does not cover:
— prestressing reinforcement in box culverts, junction boxes, foundation elements, garages and
HVAC flue elements,
— beams inferior to 4,5 m in length used as lintels in masonry walls,
— beams for beamandblock floor systems with a total depth inferior to 60 mm or superior to
300 mm and/or designed for a spacing superior to 1,00 m at centres,
— prestressed floor plates for floor systems with a nominal thickness inferior to 40 mm, or
inferior to 50 mm without stiffening ribs or lattice girder,
— floor plates for floor systems with a very smooth upper face according to EN 199211:2004, 6.2.5,
— hollow core slabs or solid slabs manufactured in the same way but without hollow cores with
dimensions superior to: depth: 500 mm for prestressed elements and 300 mm for reinforced
elements, width: 1 200 mm without transverse reinforcement and 2 400 mm with transverse
bottom reinforcement,
— floor slats for livestock for loadings other than stock and stockmen, and prestressed single
slat beams,
(Please refer to document CEN/TC 229 N2407 for the complete scope)

Purpose

This document is intended to answer a standardisation request from the European Commission, under the Construction Product Regulation (Regulation (EU) 305/2011), covering precast concrete products. The draft standardisation request as finalised within the CEN SRAHG will be used as a basis to start the work until the Standardisation Request is adopted.
