Scope

This document specifies the general performance test methods for the thermal management system of electric vehicle traction battery packs and systems, including cooling performance, heating performance and thermal insulation performance

Purpose

Temperature has a significant impact on the performance, life, and safety of electric vehicle traction batteries. The battery thermal management system is a device that manages the heat generated from the battery, enabling it to operate safely and effectively in the suitable temperature range. A unified and representative test methods for battery thermal management systems is beneficial for evaluating the performance of battery thermal management systems and reducing research and development costs. However, there is currently no international standard for testing performance of thermal management systems for traction batteries.

As a result, it’s necessary to develop a ISO Technical Specification to propose unified and representative test methods for battery thermal management systems with international technical discussions and cooperation.
