ISO/NP 25411 Carbon footprint accounting and reporting of non-parallel steel wire and cords for tyre reinforcement

Scope

This document describes the methodology for the calculation of the carbon footprint and specify the guidelines, requirements for accounting and reporting carbon footprint of steel wire and cords used for tyre reinforcement

Purpose

As a reinforcement material for tires, steel cord is developed with the development of radial tires, which are the companions of the rapid development of the automobile industry and highways, and are important industrial products. According to the data disclosed in the annual reports of listed companies in the steel cord industry, preliminary calculations show that the average production of one ton of steel cord will produce more than 1.3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Steel cord product accounts for about 15% of the carbon footprint of tire products, and carbon reduction of steel cord is one of the important paths for tire carbon reduction. At present, there is no standard for calculating and reporting the carbon footprint of steel cord products worldwide. The practice at home and abroad shows that the standard is an indispensable foundation for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and the establishment of a practical and feasible relevant standard for long-term sustainable development provides method guidance for steel cord enterprises to reduce carbon emissions from management requirements, technology applications, target setting, resource conservation and other aspects, and ensures that the industry uses the same method to quantify carbon footprint and reduce possible trade risks. At present, there is a number of international standards in the field of steel wire, and has rich experience in international standard management. In addition, steel cord production plants all over the world, as well as upstream and downstream partners in the supply chain, also provide good conditions for collecting market demands and information and lay the foundation for the completion of the project. To this end, we have declared the preparation of carbon footprint accounting and reporting standards for steel cord products, hoping to discuss with experts in the industry and play a supporting and leading role in carbon peak and carbon neutrality for steel cord production enterprises.
