In recent years, bracelets have had a large market share in the jewellery industry, and the sale of
various types of bracelets has continued to strengthen. However, the current representation methods
for bracelet sizes are very messy, causing many unnecessary troubles and disputes. It is essential to
establish an unified method for measurement and designation of bracelet sizes.
1. Unified bracelet size measurement and designation methods to maintain market order
The bracelet size is a key parameter. If the size is too large, it is easy to fall off, damage or even lose,
and if it is too small, it will not fit. Due to the lack of standards for bracelet size, people express
themselves in different ways. According to statistics, disputes caused by size mismatch account for
more than 20% of the number of bracelets traded. In China alone, the annual transaction volume of
precious jewellery bracelets is over 100 billion yuan. According to this calculation, unnecessary
transaction losses of 20 billion yuan can be generated every year.
Currently, there are two methods for expressing the size of bracelets on the market: the inner diameter
method and the inner circumference method. These two methods have created strong conflicts in the
market. The market urgently needs standardization.
Due to the lack of standards, people cannot accurately quantify and convey information about the
bracelets size, and most bracelets on the market do not explicitly indicate their size, making it difficult
for consumers to protect their rights. This has seriously affected consumer confidence and hindered the
healthy development of the industry.
The local standard of Shandong Province, " Jewellery — Definition, measurement, and designation of
bracelets size," adopts the most common way of expressing bracelet size based on extensive market
research. The standard has been implemented for several years and practice has proved to have a
good regulatory effect on the industry, with a significant reduction in complaints and disputes due to
hand size. However, due to the limited scope of application of the standard, it cannot be widely
promoted. Upgrading the standard to an international standard is an inevitable requirement for market
development.
2. The need for industrial upgrading to meet the standardized needs of bracelet sizes in different
industries and fields
With the development of society, bracelet products have been upgraded to multiple industries, using
materials including various gemstones, precious metals, as well as various ordinary metals, wood,
ivory, bone, glass and other simulation jewellery. They involve the fields of jewellery, handicrafts, toys,
mechanical processing and manufacturing, and has a wide range of applications.
3. Mature technical solutions
This project utilizes market research data to form the local standard DB37/T 2950-2017 in Shandong
Province and the group standard T/GAC 5-2019 of the China Jewellery and Jade Industry Association.
After a long period of market testing, it has been proven that this standard has played a good guiding
role.
In summary, it is strongly recommended to establish international standards as soon as possible, so
that this parameter can be executed according to commonly used methods in the market, unify the
wording of bracelet sizes in various industries and fields, and promote the trade of bracelet products.
