Scope
The scope of the new standard will cover the different types of repair and rehabilitation that can
be undertaken on / or with clay pipes.
This will include details on trenchless installation technologies where clay pipes can be used for
repair or replacement. The standard will outline the technique used and relevant standards that
products can be used from as well as performance and testing criteria for products after
installation.
The scope will also cover repair and rehabilitation of pipes laid using the open trench installation
method. This will include replacement of socketed joints and replacement or repair of pipes,
junctions and manholes. The scope will again cover the products that can be used, their
performance criteria and testing methods after installation.
Purpose
The purpose of this proposal is to cover a gap in the clay standards where the use of clay pipes and fittings in repair and rehabilitation projects is not covered. The standard is required to provide owners and water authorities with acceptable forms of repair and rehabilitation both of clay pipe systems and when using clay pipes. The technical topics to be covered will incorporate new trenchless technologies such as pipe bursting, pipe eating and pipe lining and will also cover aspects such as replacement of socketed joints and repair of pipes laid in an open trench that are not covered elsewhere in either the EN 295 series or on other standards relating to repair and rehabilitation.
