Scope
This document defines the operating procedure to perform Damp Heat resistance test for metal
accessories, by themselves or with coupled material (Packaging, Leather, Textiles, …).
This document specifies the conditions of exposure of metal accessories to damp heat, and provides
two different test methods:
- metal accessories by themselves exposed to damp heat;
- metal accessories coupled with different materials (Packaging, Leather, Textiles, …).
Purpose
This proposal is made in order to define the operating procedure to perform Damp Heat resistance test for metal accessories, by themselves or with coupled material (Packaging, Leather, Textiles, …). The evaluation of corrosion resistance in metal accessories in leathergoods stands as a pivotal yet unstandardized aspect within the fashion and luxury industry. Presently, a notable absence of specific standards tailored for this kind of articles persists, leading to the adoption of test methods derived from disparate fields such as plastics, automotive industries or leather. However, the utilization of these borrowed standards proves inadequate for conducting thorough and precise assessments essential for ensuring the longevity and quality of precious metal coatings. Consequently, the industry finds itself grappling with a deficiency in standardized protocols capable of effectively evaluating corrosion resistance in these specialized applications. By contrast, understanding how metal accessories, with different surface treatments and coatings, perform under humid heat conditions with a standard test method is vital for ensuring product integrity during storage and transportation, especially in environments with high humidity levels. Insights gained from this test can inform packaging design and material selection, ensuring products remain protected and pristine under various environmental conditions. This document applies also to metal accessories that are then applied to leathergoods (i.e. bags, belts, …). (Please use this field or attach an annex)
