CIB for comment submission on ISO/NP25265 Proposed to ISO/TC160 "Glass in Building"

Scope

This document specifies requirements for the properties of glasses used in building glass skylight system including tempered glass, laminated glasses, insulating glass containing laminated glass, vacuum glass containing laminated glass and photovoltaic glass. This document also specifies test methods used to verify these properties.

Purpose

Building skylight system is widely used in many famous architectures such as China National Theatre
and Shanghai Tower. Skylight can improve building daylighting and building energy efficiency. Glass is
an important part of skylight system. Skylight systems are complicated and varied in different region
considering weather conditions. Many glass roofs allow people activities but some don’t. Glasses are
had to meet different properties requirements in different skylight systems. However, there are no ISO
standards about skylight glasses. For safety and general utility reasons, it is necessary to establish a
standard for glasses used in skylight system. It could be applied in architectural design, testing and
certification, judicature and arbitration, international trade.
In this Standard, we hope to solve the problems below:
1, The definition and classification of skylight.
2, How to choose glass type under different conditions like severe cold, high humidity, glass beam
support structure, etc. For example, laminated glass, insulating glass containing laminated glass,
vacuum glass containing laminated glass, etc, could be considered.
3, How to choose glass size, thickness of laminated glass film.
4, Requirements for insulating glass and vacuum glass.
5, How to choose glasses used in photovoltaic skylight system.
