Scope

The Scope of the standard will not be changed by the proposed changes

BS 6400-1 is now 8 years old, and BS 6400-2 is now 6 years old.

There is considerable duplication (which adds unnecessary length to the document) and could result in confusion.

There is one area where incorrect guidance is given (not safety related), and an area of best practice that could be adopted to stop the number of reported gas escapes at the meter following a meter exchange.

It would be good to align guidance text which is common to both standards.

Purpose

Under the direction of CB/4, is responsible for the formulation and maintenance of national standards for gas appliance installations.
