The scope of this document excludes any new requirements, considering and referencing only the requirements stated by the above listed standards.
The design, verification and testing of electronic equipment on board rolling stock is standardised by the EN 50155. This standard refers to the EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-5 in the clause “Fire behaviour requirements”. However, the referred series deals with the electronic equipment in a generic and limited way: • EN 45545-2:2020 deals with electronic equipment only in table 2 – Requirements of listed products, at EL9 and EL10 entries. • EN 45545-5:2013 + A1:2015 states requirements only for electrical equipment without any explicit reference to electronic equipment. As a consequence, the application of the EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-5 to the case of electronic equipment on board of trains opens the door to very different interpretations. Designers, assessors, suppliers and customers may reach different points of view; this results in problems which are difficult to resolve. In order to overcome such situation, TC9X decided to set up the CLC TC9X WG29 with the task to prepare NWIP on guidelines for the application of the EN 45545-2 and EN 45545-5 in case of electronic equipment on board rolling stock. Particularly, UNIFE was aware of such difficulties and noted them when preparing the Fire Certificate Inventory List (FCIL) approach and the “Guideline &Instruction” on how to fill the FCIL by rolling stock suppliers to identify and qualify their products in respect fire safety based on EN 45545-2. CLC TC9X WG29, tasked by CLC TC9X, cooperated fruitfully with CEN TC 256 WG 01 in order to define the contents and the extent of a Technical Report which can guide in the case of application of EN 45545-2 and -5 to electronic equipment. The results were considered very useful and valuable by experts of both CLC TC9X WG 29 and CEN TC 256 WG01 and were used to fill this NWIP form. As stated by CLC TC9X, in the MoM CLC/TC9X/Sec1171/RM, dated 18 December 2019, “it is valuable to finalize the technical report and publish. Then the TR could be offered to CEN TC 256 in order that the contents can be used as input in a future revision of EN 45545-2.
