Top drive systems help improve drilling efficiencies with their ability to connect longer strands of drill pipe to the drill string during tripping operations. These systems also provide for safer drilling operations by reducing the amount of manual labor needed on the rig and improves the ability to control kicks while tripping out of the hole. A top drive drilling system enables operators to reach areas and types of formations that would have been out of reach previously with conventional rotary drilling. This standard will play an active role in promoting the international application of this technology.
