ISO/NP 25196 Analogue quartz clocks — The maximum allowable values of the consumption current and energy consumption grade

Scope

This international standard specifies the maximum allowable values of the consumption current, energy consumption grade, test methods and energy consumption grade marking of analogue quartz clocks (hereinafter referred to as “the quartz clock”).

This international standard is applicable to the quartz clock with a crystal frequency of 32 768 Hz and a nominal working voltage of DC 1.50 V. Quartz clock movements may also refer to it. This international standard does not include the current consumed by the additional functions of the quartz clock. This international standard is not applicable to the following quartz clocks:

— Clocks for specific use on aircraft, ships, cars and other equipment;

— Clocks for equipping other products;

— Clocks using radio wave signals as clock source, such as radio-controlled clocks and Bluetooth clocks, etc.

Purpose

Worldwide, the annual clock trade volume is hundreds of millionsof which analogue quartz clock products are the most widely used clock products, with huge production and sales, and frequent international trade. Consumption current is an important technical index of such products, and the energy consumption of the product is also concerned by consumers. We have also paid attention to many consumers’ complaints about frequent battery replacement. We believe that it is necessary to control the energy consumption of the product itself, which is more conducive to promoting the healthy development of the industry. At present, there are three international standards in the field of clock: ISO 13074:2012 Analogue quartz clocks — Fitting dimensions of movements to hands, ISO 19235:2015 Analogue quartz clocks — Timing accuracy, ISO 23346:2020 Radio-controlled clocks — Signal receiving measurement methodand there is no international standard for energy consumption of analogue quartz clocks. In order to improve quality of analogue quartz clock products, improve consumer satisfaction, and contribute to global energy conservation, it is recommend that “Analogue quartz clocks — The maximum allowable values of the consumption current and energy consumption grade” be considered as the NWIP of international standard.
