ISO/NP 82079-3 Preparation of instructions for use — Structuring, content and presentation — Part 3: Specific provisions for complex systems

Scope

This part of 82079 International Standard provides specific provisions for complex systems. This document considers the preparation of information for use of complex systems in the relevant phases of the system life cycle.

This part of the 82079 International Standard is to be used in conjunction with IEC/IEEE 82079 1:2019. Complex systems in the sense of this standard are an assembly of linked parts, components and subsystems which are linked together for a specific purpose.

Information for use for complex systems is usually developed during the construction, testing and commissioning phase.

Purpose

This part focuses on additional provisions for information for use of complex systems. In this part, complex systems are understood to be all systems, together with their technical equipment and component parts, whose function and control technology is interlinked at a single site, and which fulfil a defined task.

Numerous products (component parts, assemblies, devices, sensors, valves, etc.) and subsystems from various suppliers are used in complex systems, their subordinate systems and auxiliary equipment. Information for use, whose content and structure is regulated by IEC/IEEE 82079-1, part of an information product which in turn forms part of the supported product that is delivered. Adding individual products and subsystems to higher-level complex systems makes it necessary to provide information. The information required cannot be solely conveyed by individual information for use.

As a rule, the manufacturer of a product does not know what effect his/her product will have when interacting with other products in a system and which additional requirements will result.

This NWIP offers generally applicable rules for comprehensive descriptions of plants and can be referred to in contracts and agreements, either in whole or excerpts thereof.

This NWIP does not specify layout and labelling rules. These are defined in other standards.
