PNW 23A-1075 ED1: CDD Database - Cable tray systems and cable ladder systems

Scope

The purpose of this document is to draft product classes and properties, representing cable tray systems and cable ladder systems to become a part of the IEC XXXXX DB. It includes data needed for product selection as well as data needed for engineering.

This IEC XXXXX DB intends, as a contribution to the IEC Common Data Dictionary, to be used by catalogue consortia, other database standards and software as a data reference for cable tray systems and cable ladder systems.

IEC CDD XXXXX domain (data dictionary) can be accessed by clicking on the following link: SC23A - Test – Cable management systems (CMS) Note: a proper number (instead of XXXXX) will be given to this data dictionary later in the process

Purpose

In the electrotechnical area, the IEC provided a basis for introduction of the product classes and properties into the IEC 61360 database maintained by IEC SC 3D (see https://cdd.iec.ch). The main goal is to provide a digital product description with unambiguous semantic in a common dictionary to be used by catalogue consortia and other database standards.

This document aims to provide a contribution to the IEC CDD with classes and properties consistent with the products under the scope of SC 23A/MT12.

This work within SC 23A is a complementary contribution after other Technical Committees or Sub-Committees made similar work in their area.

Such a document is supported by SC 3D.

The intended benefits of this document are to:

• reduce the costs and efforts in mapping data for each customer request;

• optimize the workflow of B2B exchanges;

• minimize duplication of articles in customer inventories and in databases;

• minimize losses and misinterpretation of data during exchanges;

• facilitate the selection of a product, especially regarding reliability and safety;

• give access to product data everywhere regardless of country, language and culture;

• provide product data related to environmental aspects such as material declaration;

• contribute to the fast growth of e-business by simplifying the development of

- e-catalogue allowing the differentiation of products performances, certificates, etc;

- e-commerce: use of electronic networks to exchange information, products, services and payments for commercial and communication purposes between individuals (consumers) and businesses, and between businesses themselves.

• enable new e-business models

There is an urgency to define the relevant vocabulary to describe products considering the fast development of e- business, the emergence of new tools and associated models such as those used for BIM and any design software with a need to use the relevant vocabulary and to avoid misinterpretations
