Adoption of a Preliminary Work Item "Guidance on the assessment of fatigue in lighting columns"

Scope

This TR provides methods for calculating the applied fatigue stress and allowable fatigue stresses in common details found in steel lighting columns. It also provides guidance on details within aluminium lighting columns to minimise the likelihood that fatigue cracking will occur.

Purpose

Fatigue is one of the most common causes of failure of lighting columns given that the ULS conditions prevent structural overload failures. However, there is no European guidance on fatigue specifically for lighting columns. This document will assist in filling the gap in the guidance.
