Decision 05/2024 to activate a Preliminary Work Item for the revision of EN 14065:2016 Textiles - Textiles Laundry processed textiles - Biocontamination control system

Scope

This document specifies an approach for risk management called Risk Analysis and Biocontamination Control (RABC) for laundries to continuously assure the microbiological quality of laundry processed textiles. The RABC approach applies to laundry market sectors where it is necessary to control biocontamination, e.g. pharmaceuticals, medical devices, food, healthcare, leisure, hospitality and cosmetics.

Purpose

The Covid 19 pandemic has caused massive activity in the field of healthcare laundering as well as other sectors such as food and hospitality concerning the requirement to control biocontamination.

The standard was up to the challenge and it is felt necessary to share the latest Best practices and research following the impact of Covid19 and to inform on how best laundries are being able to achieve hygienic cleanliness and satisfying customers’ requirements following EN 14 065 not just in the healthcare sector, but also in the hospitality, leisure, and other sensitive areas, ensuring its adequacy to the present challenges and relevant transfer of knowledge. As such, it is suggested to add an Informative Annex in the standard.
