ISO/NP 25148-1 Ultrasonic method for residual stress characterization — Part 1: Critically refracted longitudinal wave

Scope

This document specifies the test method for measuring residual stress by using ultrasonic critical refracted longitudinal wave.

This document is applicable to metallic and non-metallic solid materials which have a good acoustic permeability to determine residual or loading stresses non-destructively.

Purpose

Residual stress is a kind of inherent stress popularly exist in materials, which plays a very important role for properties of mechanical components in service. Usually the influence of tensile residual stress is harmful but the compressive residual stress is beneficial. Therefore, it is very important to identify the state of residual stress in mechanical components by an effective and non-destructive testing method. Ultrasonic testing is the sole way to non-destructively and quantitatively test the internal stress in materials. In order to solve the NDT problem of residual stress, ultrasonic testing technique and test instrument of residual stress were developed by the proposer and already got a wide application in the industrial area up to now.
