The linear accelerator can be used to accelerate the electrical particles, commonly used in scientific research and industrial fields. According to different uses, it can be divided into non-destructive testing, radiation processing, security inspection and other linear accelerators.
Electron linear accelerator for radiation processing is a device that generates a high-energy electron beam through a linear radio frequency resonant structure. The accelerator device has the advantages of no toxicity and radiation residue, high radiation efficiency, easy operation and control, etc. It is an important equipment for radiation sterilization, radiation modification, radiation solidification, radiation degradation, agricultural breeding and other radiation processing fields.
Chinese suppliers of this type of accelerator installation include China Institute of Atomic Energy, TONGWEIXINDA, CGN Dasheng, Wuxi EL Pont, etc. International suppliers include MEVEX of Canada, NIIEFA of Russia, EB TECH of Korea, IHI of Japan, etc. At present there is no uniform international standard in the world, which leads to different layout forms and inspection methods of technical indicators between different linear accelerator suppliers. In order to achieve the best international trade order of the device, the determination of relevant technical indicators and inspection methods in the production, sales and procurement could be based on evidence, it is necessary to formulate a series of international standards for the device.
IEC 62976 ‘Industrial non-destructive testing equipment - Electron linear accelerator’, prepared by the IEC TC45 was officially released in 2017. It is proposed to expand the scope of linear accelerator system standards within the framework of IEC TC45, and develop a series of international standards for linear accelerators based on the original non-destructive testing electron linear accelerator standards.
Therefore, IEC 62976 is suggested to change the document number and name to IEC 62976-1 ‘Linear accelerator—Electron linear accelerator for non-destructive’. The standard number about electron linear accelerator for radiation processing is suggested as ‘IEC 62976-2’
