Draft Decision 6/2024 – Adoption of a NWI for EN 16589-2 Laboratory local exhaust devices - Part 2: Commissioning and On-site Testing

Scope

This document is applicable to test methods to be used at the place of installation of the AEA, usually a laboratory and for various laboratory applications that require local extraction. They are used for commissioning after installation, for maintenance and for qualification purposes.

This document does not consider performance requirements for the extract air system associated with the AEA installation and is not part of the scope.

This document does not confirm or establish a capture zone of an AEA capture device only the functional extract capacity and mechanical functions of the AEA.

Purpose

To provide on-site testing, commissioning and validation guide for AEA Devices Current proposed Type Test standard is not entirely reproduceable as an on-site test, there is a requirement for a test method that correlates with aspects of the type test method in order to provide a measure of on-site performance evaluation.

Commissioning and on-site testing are important requirements to ensure adequate capture performance for users’ health and safety.

Performance evaluation in-situ will be considered, taking into consideration the influences of actual laboratory conditions which may differ from those undertaken in type test procedures.
