The designation “PAS 24” been retained (as opposed to “BS 24”) to avoid industry confusion and to allow for more flexibility to update the standard. PAS 24 specifies test methods and acceptance criteria relevant to the enhanced security performance of doorsets and windows intended to resist attacks normally associated with the casual or opportunistic burglar. It applies to new doorsets and windows as manufactured and prior to installation, and to the following products:
Windows - singular and multi-light:
1. Top hung, side hung, bottom hung, butt hinged
2. Top and side hung projected
3. Top hung and side hung fully reversible
4. Tilt and turn and turn and tilt to vertical and horizontal sliding
5. Fixed and fixed casements (dummy vents)
6. Parallel opening
7. Double opening (French windows)
8. Vertical and horizontal pivot
Doorsets:
1. Single and double leaf
2. Single and double swing
3. Hinged
4. Sliding (single and multi-track)
5. Pivot
6. Folding sliding (single and multi-track)
7. Stable
8. With or without integral side panels and fanlights
Certification bodies operate accredited product certification schemes to provide assurance that doorsets and windows meet the requirements of PAS 24.
NOTE: The security performance requirements in PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 are not material specific. Nor does this PAS test component performance or installation requirements. Certification, however, does require you to meet the requirements of material specific standards.
This standard needs to be amended to keep abreast of changing criminal modus operandi. There are also updates to referenced Industry documents. The standard is referenced in DLUHC Approved Document Q (Security in dwellings). Certification to PAS 24 is one method for a doorset or window to meet the requirements of the UK Police Service ‘Secured by Design Scheme’. PAS 24 forms the backbone of Part Q of the Building Regulations in England and Wales and features in the 4.13 of the Scottish Building Regulations.
