ISO/NP 24991 Methods for chemical analysis of lithium concentrates- Determination of lithium oxide content — Flame atomic absorption spectrometry

Scope

This part specifies the determination methods of lithium oxide, This part is applicable to the determination of lithium oxide in lithium concentrates. Determination range: lithium oxide2.00%-8.00%

Purpose

The strong demand for new energy vehicles has driven the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry, and products such as lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, and lithium chloride in the electric vehicle industry chain have also shown an explosive growth trend. Global new energy vehicles are developing rapidly, and it is expected that by 2025, the annual sales of global new energy vehicles will exceed 18.95 million. By 2025, the global demand for lithium carbonate will reach 1.24 million tons, and by 2030, due to the rapid development of electric vehicles, energy storage and 5G, the battery capacity will be about 3,000 gigawatt-hours. The global lithium equivalent is expected to grow from 370,000 tons in 2020 to 1.24 million tons in 2025. This requires a large amount of lithium concentrate for smelting LCE and extracting the required lithium. In the past two years, LCE increased from 642,000 tons in 2021 to 78,000 tons in 2022, a large number of lithium salts for export trade every year. China's lithium carbonate trading volume accounts for more than 2/3 of the lithium salt trading volume, lithium concentrate imports also account for more than 2/3 of the world.China's imports of lithium concentrate reached 2.84 million tons in 2022. At present in the transaction process between buyers and sellers, the lithium content of lithium concentrate is the focus of both sides. However, there is no unified analytical method for the determination of lithium content in lithium concentrate in the global trade. After the lithium concentrate is digested by hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid, the lithium content is tested by AA method, some other foreign institutions have used acid digestion or alkali digestion using ICP method to test the lithium content.Due to the current domestic and foreign production using different analysis methods to test the lithium concentrate content, and each trade amount is large, it is recommended to develop a set of international standards to determine the lithium content in lithium concentrate.
