Adoption of a NWI Chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption - antiscalants for membranes – citric acid

Scope

This standard will focus on the specific use of citric acid used for antiscalants for membranes and so will help to remove a gap in the current suite of standards

Purpose

Following discussions in CEN TC 164 WG9, over the last 5 years, there has been an acceptance from at least some of the National Standards Bodies that it would be useful for there to be a standard developed for citric acid used as antiscalants for membranes, as citric acid is commonly used for this purpose.

The discussions have continued over the last 5 years and updates have been provided at the annual meeting of CEN TC 164 WG9.

The UK offered to lead the project and to invest some time in drafting a standard that could then be checked and revised by other colleagues in the CEN Technical Committee, as applicable, to agree a final working document.

Following the most recent annual meeting of CEN TC 164 WG9 in 2023, there was support from at least 5 countries to start the work programme and hence the request for this new work item to officially draft the standard.
